Exfoliation
What are the benefits ?
Unclogs Pores: It helps remove dead skin cells that can clog pores and cause breakouts.
Improves Skin Texture: By sloughing off dead skin, you reveal the newer, smoother skin underneath.
Enhances Absorbance: Skin products penetrate more effectively when the top layer of dead skin cells have been removed.
Even Skin Tone: Regular exfoliation can help fade dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
Stimulates Cell Renewal: Exfoliation encourages the formation of new skin cells, contributing to a youthful appearance.
Types of Exfoliants
Physical Exfoliants
Scrubs: These contain small granules or particles that manually slough off dead skin.
Exfoliating Tools: Brushes, sponges, or cloths designed to physically remove dead skin cells.
Chemical Exfoliants
AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids): Water-soluble acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid that help to peel away the surface of your skin.
BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids): Oil-soluble acids like salicylic acid that penetrate deeper into the pores to remove dead skin cells and excess sebum
Enzyme Exfoliants: Derived from fruits, these enzymes gently dissolve dead skin cells.
What to Choose?
Choose the most suitable Method for your Skin Type
For physical Exfoliants:
Scrubs: Opt for scrubs with fine, gentle particles. Avoid scrubs with harsh ingredients like crushed nuts or seeds, which can cause micro tears in the skin.
Use soft-bristled brushes or sponges suitable for your skin type.
For Chemical Exfoliation:
AHAs: Ideal for dry or sensitive skin. Look for products with glycolic acid or lactic acid.
BHAs: Suitable for oily or acne-prone skin. Salicylic acid is a common BHA.
Enzymes: Gentle enough for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

Use circular motions to gently massage the exfoliant onto your skin about 30 seconds to a minute.
Thoroughly rinse off the exfoliant with lukewarm water.
For Chemical Exfoliation
Ensure your skin is dry before applying the product.
Apply only a small amount of the chemical exfoliant to your face, avoiding the eye area.
Follow the general instructions on your specific product, leave the product on for the recommended time as per the product instructions (typically 5-10 minutes for AHAs/BHAs).
Rinse off (if needed), some chemical exfoliants are leave-on products, while others need to be rinsed off. Follow the product’s guidelines.
Additional Tips
Frequency: Exfoliate 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type and the strength of the exfoliant. Over-exfoliation can cause irritation and damage !
Patch Test: If you’re using a new exfoliant, perform a patch test to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction.
Avoid Harsh Products: DO NOT use exfoliant on damaged or irritated skin. Avoid using multiple exfoliants products simultaneously.
Be Gentle: Do not scrub your skin too harshly with physical exfoliants to avoid micro-tears.
Listen to Your Skin: If your skin feels irritated or sensitive, reduce the frequency of exfoliation.
