Cleansing
Why Proper Hair Cleansing is Essential?
Removes Buildup: Cleanses the scalp and hair of oils, dirt, and product residues that can weigh hair down and cause scalp issues.
Promotes Scalp Health: Helps prevent scalp conditions such as dandruff, itchiness, and excess oil production.
Improves Hair Texture: Ensures that hair products can work effectively, leading to shinier, more manageable hair.
How to Cleanse Your Hair
Choose the Right Shampoo
For Different Hair Types:
Oily Hair: Opt for a clarifying or volumising shampoo to remove excess oil without over-drying.
Dry Hair: Use a moisturising or hydrating shampoo to replenish lost moisture.
Colour-Treated Hair: Select a sulphate-free, colour-safe shampoo to preserve colour and prevent damage.
Sensitive Scalp: Choose a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo designed for sensitive skin.
Tip:
Avoid shampoos with sulphates if you have dry or colour-treated hair, as sulphates can strip natural oils and colour.
Wet Your Hair Thoroughly
Temperature: Use lukewarm water, as hot water can strip the hair of natural oils, while cold water may not effectively remove buildup.
Duration: Ensure hair is completely saturated, which allows for a more even distribution of shampoo and better cleansing.
Tip:
Gently massage the scalp with your fingertips to stimulate blood flow and ensure thorough wetting.
Apply Shampoo
Amount: Use a quarter-sized amount for short to medium hair, and slightly more for longer or thicker hair.
Application: Apply shampoo to your scalp, focusing on the roots where oil and buildup accumulate.
Lathering: Gently massage the shampoo into your scalp using your fingertips in circular motions. Avoid using your nails to prevent irritation.
Tip:
If your hair is very dirty or has heavy product buildup, consider doing a double cleanse. Apply shampoo, rinse, and then apply a second, smaller amount of shampoo, lather, and rinse again.
Rinse Thoroughly
Removal: Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water to ensure all shampoo is removed.
Residual Shampoo: Make sure no residue is left behind, as leftover shampoo can weigh hair down and cause dryness.
Tip:
If you have hard water, which can leave mineral deposits in your hair, consider using a chelating shampoo occasionally to remove buildup.
Follow Up with Conditioner
Conditioner Application: Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, where moisture is most needed.
Leave-In Time: Allow the conditioner to sit for a few minutes before rinsing for deeper conditioning.
Tip:
Use a leave-in conditioner or hair mask once a week for extra hydration and repair.
Dry Your Hair Gently
Towel Drying: Gently blot your hair with a towel to remove excess water. Avoid vigorous rubbing, as this can cause breakage.
Air Drying vs. Heat: Allow hair to air dry when possible to minimise heat damage. If using a blow dryer, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand.
Tip:
Use a micro-fibre towel or an old T-shirt instead of a regular towel to reduce frizz and damage.
